DigiD for Dutch people living abroad
Dutch people who live abroad can go to one of the participating organisations and ask for a DigiD to be issued over the counter. Anyone who takes a valid Dutch travel document and a Citizens Service Number (BSN) to a designated counter can apply for and activate a DigiD at that counter. The following organisations are participating in the trial:

• Local Council of Enschede
• Local Council of Maastricht
• Local Council of Echt-Susteren
• Local Council of The Hague
• Local Council of Haarlemmermeer (Schiphol)

On the Rijksoverheid.nl you will find the latest information regarding the participating organisations.

Conditions
To be eligible for a DigiD issued over the counter, a number of conditions have to be fulfilled:

• You live abroad*
• You have the Dutch nationality
• You hold a valid Dutch travel document (passport or Dutch identity card -NIK-)
• You have a Citizens Service Number (BSN)*
• You have a mobile telephone

* Dutch people who moved abroad before the 1st of October 1994 and who have not lived in the Netherlands since then do not have a Citizens Service Number. For that reason, they are not eligible for a DigiD issued over the counter.

The application process
Ensuring you have your travel document with you, report to a staff member at the counter. At the counter you will be given a code, which you take to a booth containing a PC, which you use to apply for a DigiD. You then return to the counter.

Once you have correctly completed the application process, you will receive an activation code which you use at the counter to activate a DigiD. As well as a username and password, a login code is also required, which is sent by SMS. You can activate DigiD using the PC in the booth (we recommend that you do this, so that you can immediately check whether this was successful) or on your own PC or telephone with Internet access. You will receive detailed instructions from the staff member at the counter.

Trial period
This trial started on the 1st of May 2013 and is expected to continue until at least the end of 2014. If the trial is successful, in the future the service will be offered at more local councils and at Dutch embassies abroad. This will be announced in 2014.Dutch people who moved abroad before the 1st of October 1994 and who have not lived in the Netherlands since then do not have a Citizens Service Number. For that reason, they cannot participate in the trial.

DigiD voor Nederlanders in het buitenland

Tot eind 2014 loopt een proef waarbij Nederlanders die in het buitenland wonen hun DigiD kunnen aanvragen aan een balie. Wie zich bij een balie meldt met een geldig Nederlands reisdocument en een burgerservicenummer kan ter plaatse zijn DigiD aanvragen én activeren. U kunt terecht bij de volgende balies:

• Gemeente Enschede
• Gemeente Maastricht
• Gemeente Echt-Susteren
• Gemeente Den Haag
• Gemeente Haarlemmermeer (balie op Schiphol)

Let op! Het is mogelijk dat u eerst een afspraak moet maken met de betreffende gemeente om langs te komen voor het aanvragen van uw DigiD. Het Nederlands Consulaat-generaal in Antwerpen heeft eerder meegedaan aan deze proef maar neemt geen aanvragen meer in behandeling.

Voorwaarden
Om in aanmerking te komen voor een DigiD via balie-uitgifte, moet u voldoen aan enkele voorwaarden:

• U woont in het buitenland
• U beschikt over de Nederlandse nationaliteit
• U heeft een geldig Nederlands reisdocument (paspoort of Nederlandse identiteitskaart)
• U heeft een burgerservicenummer (BSN)
• U beschikt over een mobiele telefoon

Het aanvraagproces

1. U meldt zich met uw reisdocument bij een baliemedewerker.
2. U ontvangt een baliecode
3. U vraagt uw DigiD aan op een computer die ter plaatse aanwezig is. Onthoud uw gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord goed.
4. U gaat terug naar de balie en ontvangt een activeringscode
5. Activeer uw DigiD ter plekke op de beschikbare computer of via uw mobiele telefoon met internetverbinding.
